Presentation of the European Dairy Association (EDA)
Signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Serbian National Milk Processors Association and the European Dairy Association, in order to strengthen the dairy sector in Serbia.
Twelve young entrepreneurs will receive grants totaling $150,000 (11.6 million RSD) to launch agribusinesses as winners of a Youth Business Plan Competition sponsored by the USAID Agribusiness Project.
The awards will be presented at 11 a.m. Wednesday by USAID’s Economic Growth Office Director Susan Kutor and Serbia’s Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management Milos Milovanovic.
During the event, the winners of the Youth Business Plan Competition will be awarded certificates and grants by USAID Mission Director, Ms. Susan Fritz, to initiate their own agribusinesses.
The National Conference on the State of the Environment is being organized by the USAID Agribusiness Project, Serbian Agency for the Protection of Environment (SEDA) and the Ministry of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning. The annual report on the status of environment in Serbia in 2010 will be presented during the event.
Eleven Serbian women will receive grants totaling US$160,000 (11.7 million RSD) to launch their own agribusinesses. The recipients are the winners of a Business Plan Competition sponsored by the USAID Agribusiness Project.
Awards will be presented 11 a.m. Wednesday by USAID Mission Director Susan K. Fritz. The entrepreneurs will be starting businesses in a variety of pursuits, including milk processing and fruit, vegetable and medicinal herb cultivation and processing. They all have completed an agribusiness training course sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development.
The USAID Agribusiness Project launched its Women in Agribusiness Project in 2010 to promote entrepreneurship among women living in rural Serbia. Nearly 300 women completed the project’s training course, which included the creation of business plans to start new enterprises.
The conference entitled "New Agrarian Policy - Perspectives for 2012" will provide the opportunity for relevant representatives of government institutions, technical experts, the non-governmental sector, financial sector, producers, processors, traders and the media to become acquainted with the ongoing agricultural agenda and policies for 2012, as well as future plans and developments pertaining to the outstanding agrarian reforms.
This event aims to provide a transparent and constructive discussion regarding current and most crucial issues in an open forum. Stakeholders will be provided with an opportunity to articulate their concerns and provide input on issues that need to be tackled in a coordinated manner. The media will be present throughout the event and will be encouraged to engage.

The second Culinaria Fine Food Show will take place in Belgrade from the 28th to the 30th of September 2011 at the Belexpocenter.
The first Culinaria Fine Food Show took place in Belgrade in September 2010. This event brought together the leading fine food producers and key regional and European professional buyers from all marketing channels including exporters, importers, traders, brokers, supermarket chains, specialty food stores, HoReCa and food services.
During the event last year, 3000 visitors had the opportunity to meet and negotiate contracts with 79 companies from Serbia and 6 other countries. The organizers helped facilitate the attendance of 200 professional buyers from 14 countries. Amongst them were TESCO from the U.K. and Central Europe; Lidl from Croatia; retail chains and buyers from the region and some of the largest importers from the US and Canada.
The Culinaria Fine Food Fair was conceived by the USAID Agribusiness Project team as a venue where a large number of companies from Serbia and the region could reach international buyers. Zizgin Inc. was chosen as a local partner in charge of the eventimplementation. Zizgin Inc. has been successful in organizing of trade show appearance all around Europe for over 10 years.Apart from USAID, the Culinaria Fine Food Show is supported by the Republic of Serbia Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management, Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Serbian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (SIEPA) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

On Wednesday 28th of September, in front of the BelExpo Center in Belgrade at 11:00, U.S. Ambassador Mary Warlick; German Ambassador Wolfram Maas and Milos Bugarin, President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce will officially open the second regional fine food fair in Belgrade.
The USAID Agribusiness Project and the Office for Sustainable Development of Underdeveloped Areas are organizing a Conference dedicated to Women Entrepreneurs in Agribusiness during which successful women enterpreneurs will share their experiences with the aim of encouraging and providing an example to other women. The results of current activities and projects being implemented by various institutions and agencies will be presented. The aim of the conference is also to encourage and stimulate govrenment and financial instututions to take a more active role in supporting entrepreneurship.
The Conference will be officially opened by Ms. Susan Fritz, USAID Mission Director in Serbia.
2011-09-13 to 2011-09-16 World Food Moscow Trade Show
The USAID Agibusiness Project will organized and support the participation of Serbian food exporters at this important event. In preparation to this Fair, numerous preparatory events will be held with the aim of building the companies' capacity to present, network, market, negotiate and sell their products.
Study tour to Suoth Tyrol is intended for the Fruitland Association and cooparatives involved in apple production, storage and marketing.
The first aspect of the study tour is related to increasing organisational and structural capacities of Serbian cooperatives and the Fruitland association by providing knowledge on types of producer organisations in South Tyrol and their integration into more complex systems. In order to develop their organizational capacities, participants of the study tour will be presented with structure, models and modes of functioning of cooperatives and associations in South Tyrol, organization of their internal processes, creation, structure and implementation of common production standards applied among members of each cooperative and among cooperatives within associations.
The second aspect is related to sector specific, technical issues and will provide to study tour participants the opportunity to get acquainted with apple varieties grown in the area, production, harvest, postharvest and storage practices and tendencies for development of the sector in south Tyrol. Special emphasis will be put on postharvest usage of SmartFresh technology that will be available to tree fruit producers in Serbia by September 2011, that Italian producers are already using. Since Fruitland association is planing to invest into their own apple processing facility, the study tour will also include a visit to an association of cooperatives involved in apple production and processing that would provide a direction for establishing these processes within the association.
The objective of the Study Presentation on Impact of Weather Conditions on Agriculture in Serbia and Modalities of Anti-Hail Protection is to inform and engage all relevant stakeholders in a constructive discussion regarding the findings and recommendations from the Study that was developed by the team of experts during 2010 and 2011, and get their views about the existing system of hail protection in Serbia, losses occurring in the agricultural sector due to hail, modalities for individual protection in the tree fruit sector through use of anti-hail nets, and importance of the crop insurance.
Training sessions for Serbian farmers in safe pesticide use and environmental protection will be conducted in 42 Serbian municipalities in June and July by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management.
The USAID Agribusiness Project, the Coldstores Association of Serbia and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce will jointly host a Conference entitled: Serbian Berry Fruit Industry – a time for change?
During the Conference, the participants will be provided with an analysis of the current state of affairs and relevant market trends both locally and globally. Information resulting from a Russian berry fruit market analysis will be presented as well as recommendations on way to improve Serbian berry fruit presence on the Russia market , in addition to other dynamic world markets.
The aim of the Conference is to provide recommendations on actions that need to be taken to improve the competitiveness of this important sector - considered to be the driving force of rural development in Serbia.

New Livestok Law predicts linear scoring as one of important methodologies for overall genetic evaluation among dairy herds. Currently, there is no local expertize to train a limited number of trainees which should become official evaluators. The workshop will be developed in coordination with Agricultural Faculty Novi Sad, Ministry of Agriculture, Veterinarian Institute in Novi Sad, Private AI Centers Lucar Holstein Farms, PKB and US experts brought to Serbia with the assistance of the USAID Agribusiness Project.
A total of 130 food companies and producer organizations from ten municipalities will participate in 50 business skills training workshops, organized by USAID. The workshops will be held in ten different municipalities in the period between April 11th and June 31st and are designed to help companies increase the competitiveness of their products and prepare them for participation at regional and international food fairs, thus helping them access foreign markets and increase their export.
The training will be conducted in cooperation with Regional Chambers of Commerce; Local Economic Development offices from Zaječar, Vranje, Valjevo, Kruševac, Užice, Niš, Leskovac, Kraljevo; and support from the Municipalities of Novi Pazar and Nova Varoš.
The training program will cover topics such as: the development of strategic and business plans; Professional selling skills; Trade fairs and business linking and networking; Integrated marketing communication, and others.

The role of the private agribusiness sector cannot be an afterthought when considering the scale up of emission reduction activities. To ensure sustainable agribusiness development, importance is given to providing clear routes to private sector on preventive environmental management strategies. Encouraging the sustainability of Cleaner Production concept by ensuring a more holistic approach to the diffusion of best CP practice technology while simultaneously drawing in private sector finance is a main focus of " Cleaner technology in Agribussiness III" workshop. The workshop is implemented under The System of Sustainable Cleaner Production Development and Implementation in Agribusiness activity.
Intergated Pest Management in Sour Cherry Production
The new Livestock Law enables livestock technicians and farmers to perform insemination on dairy farms, to make whole process more efficient, rather then limiting it only to veterinarians to perform. However, farmers and other farm technicians need to be trained according to specific standards. The Agribusiness project will support the activity through co-organization of the training and providing of US technical expertise.

2011-03-17 Training - Intergrated Pest Management in Sour Cherry Production
Linear Scoring Training is a requirement by new livestock law for improving animal breed and genetic potential in Serbia and ultimately performance of the sector overall. This is certificate training in cioordination with US experts, Novi Sad Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Institute of Novi Sad. Trainees will be officialy appointed to provide required service in the future.
BioFach is referred to as the world's largest platform for the organic sector. Some 2,557 exhibitors and 43,669 trade visitors met at the last BioFach, the World Organic Trade Fair.
Serbian companies will present their produce under the Serbia Organica Association umbrella.

Conference on sweet and sour cherry production is organized jointly with the University of Agriculture in Belgrade
FRUIT LOGISTICA is the leading international meeting place of the fresh produce trade. Conference will be opened by: Deputy Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Nebojsa Pokimica, Director of Environmental Protection Agency, Momcilo Zivkovic and Deputy Chief of Party of USAID Agrobusiness Project, James Herne.
State of air, water and soil in Serbia in the year 2009 will be presented at the conference. Experts will talk about emission of the pollutants, waste management and the influence of some economic sectors (agriculture, energy, tourism, etc.) on the environment. In addition, the experts will present possibilities for environmental protection, activities and plans in this area for the year 2011.
At Thursday, November 24, thanks to support of USAID Agribusiness Project, Environmental Protection Agency of Serbia and Adonis from Sokobanja, the first Belgrade Tea Party will be officially opened.
At the opening ceremony, in the presence of the exhibitors, visitors, media and guests, the welcome notes will be given by representatives of the USAID Agribusiness Project and the Association of Medical and Aromatic Plants (MAP) Collectors “Dr Jovan Tucakov”.

USAID Agribusiness Project is going to support the recently founded National Association of Serbian Prune Producers to organize the first Serbian-Russian Conference dedicated to prune production and exporting. This event will take place in Valjevo on August 28-29 and will be related to the status and prospects of prune production in Serbia, export potential and market demand. This conference will present opportunity for creating business linkages between Serbian prune producers and importers from Russia, whose representatives are also going to attend this event. Support to the organization of this happening will also be provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Agrobanka and the City of Valjevo.

The Project will officially be launched on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 12h, by signing of the Agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, water management and forestry, USAID, Kuc Dairy, Mladost Dairy and local project coordinator NGO "Center for information and education".

The Project envisages, among others, expansion of milk collection centers network, practical and theoretical education for individual producers, establishment of a permanent training center for farmers producing milk in the Sumadija region and modernization of their dairy farms.
USAID Agrbusiness project and Agropress, with the support from the Ministry of agriculture and Ministry of energy and mining, are organizing a Conference titled "Agribusiness and renewable energy sources - potentials and obstacles". This event will be organized in Belgrade, on July 29, 2010, 09-13h, with the goal to provide agricultural producers with information on: government stimulation measures for the production of 'green' energy, different options available to producers (use of solar energy, biomass pelletization, digestors et), and how to use them to their own benefit, while at the same time benefiting the natural environment as well as the economy.

On Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 12h, USAID Agribusiness project will organize presentation of certificates to companies and service providers whose representatives finished the training on cleaner production. Representatives of 10 companies from Futog, Ladjevci, Bujanovac, Mackat, Vranje, Presevo, Kragujevac, Krusevac and Vrnjacka banja, together with 6 consultancies will receive certificates on this occasion.
USAID Agribusiness project has been implementing since 2008 the Cleaner production program encompassing trainings on the concept of cleaner production, feasibility studies on relevant technological solutions as well as financial support for a certain number of companies to implement these solutions in the practise.
Serbia will host the regional conference of IAAS (International association of students in agriculture and related sciences) to be held in Belgrade. This year, the participation of more than 50 students from Central-East Region including Slovenia, Switzerland, Croatia, Austria, Czech Republic, Bosnia, Macedonia and Serbia is expected. The main topic is ''Environmental protection in agriculture by using the renewable sources of energy and organic production''. One of the main goals of this event is to learn about EU regulations in the area of agriculture as well as about the changes that will be imposed with EU membership.
USAID Agribusiness project, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Serbia Organica Association and GTZ, is organizing a conference which will gather all stakeholders involved in the organic production in Serbia and cover topics such as promotion and marketing of organic products in EU, with special emphasis on France and Germany (as major organic markets in EU).
Mr. Robert Tomesh, horticulture specialist from University of Wisconsin-Extension, will advise current cranberry growers and specialists on various issues related to establishing cranberry bed and its management.
In addition, Mr. Tomesh supported by local consultant Miss Jasminka Milivojevic, will deliver a series of trainings on cranberry production and propagation technologies to businesses and individuals who have interest in this new product for Serbia. The training sessions will take place on May 1, 4 and 5 in Belanovica, Belgrade and Cacak respectively, and are organized in cooperation with Prima-borovnica Cooperative and Faculties of agriculture at Belgrade and Kragujevac Universities.
This is the second round of Youth Business Plan Competition for students in agricultural high schools and universities. Ten Business Plans were selected as award winners. The objective of the program is to integrate young agricultural students into the private sector, and to support their efforts to establish new agribusinesses in rural areas. The awardees will be given small grants from the Project, which will help them establish their new businesses.

A three day workshop on Cleaner Production in Agribusiness. The Cleaner Production program is a mixture of classroom training (with case studies), and on-site application of tools. During the workshop, participants coming from different environmental services providers (ESPs) will learn about the application of total cost assessment to waste, hazardous materials, green procurement act and environmental management systems. This will assist them in providing advice to agribusinesses on these topics. Participants representing companies will have to provide an appraisal for the pollution risks of their companies.
This preparatory training is a prerequisite training for all Serbian companies that will be attending International Fairs such as World Food Moscow and ANUGA with the assistance of the Project. The aim of this training is to build the companies' capacity to present, network, market, negotiate and sell their products effectivelly at international events.
Dr. Čeomir Nestorovic, a USAID Expert Consultatnt will present the potentials of the Halal Market and present issues regarding Halal Certification to interested Serbian companies and producers.

Agricultural companies will be presented with a number of business trainings that will be made available to them in the next couple of weeks. The trainings range from accounting and finance skills development to marketing communication and sales.

The Novi Sad Fair is organising one of the largest exhibitions of agriculture of European dimensions from 12th to 19th May this year. Incessant interest among the exhibitors is continuing with 2,000 of them displaying products from 60 different countries. This is proof enough to rank the International Agricultural Fair as the leading agribusiness event in Southeast Europe.

IFE is the only global food and drink event dedicated to innovation, where international decision makers increase their competitive advantage by sourcing a diverse range of innovative and consumer driven products from around the world. A number of Serbian companies will taek part at this fair and present their produce to international buyers.
USAID launched the International Standards Program in January 2009. The Program will be implemented during 2009 and will be comprised of two stages. During the first stage, GlogalGAP Seminars will be held throughout Serbia and during the second stage, the USAID Agribusiness Project will implement a process through which financial assistance regarding the implementation of GlobalGAP, ISO 14001 and ISO 22000 will be provided to interested Serbian food producers and exporters.
Serbian producers will exhibit their products again this year at the Gulfood. Organised since 1987, Gulfood is the region's largest and most important industry event of the year and a strategic platform for buyers and sellers to conduct direct business face to face. The exhibition is a showcase for manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers from around the world, representing all of the key sectors within the food and hospitality trade.
This year, for the fifth time, Serbian organic producers will present their fresh produce to international buyers from all over the world at the BIOFACH Fair in Nuremberg. Between the 19th and the 22nd of February and under the slogan Organic Serbia, seven companies will show the finest selection of Serbian organic produce.
PRODEXPO 2009 is the largest annual specialized food exhibition in Russia. Over the last 15 years, the exhibition space and the number of exhibiting companies have increased five - fold. In 2008, this event had 2,111 exhibitors of which 1,314 were from Russia and 797 from other 59 countries.
This year, Arilje raspberry producers through the Arilje Municipality Entrepreneurs Association, Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the USAID Agribusiness project have joined forces in promoting Arilje raspberries, one of Serbia's most valued export commodities on the international market.
This year, the largest number of Serbian companies ever will present their fresh produce to international buyers from all over the world at the Fruit Logistica Fair in Berlin. Under the slogan Serbia Naturally and occupying two pavilions, the finest selection of produce will be presented by eighteen Serbian companies.

Over 40 companies will take part at a training aimed at enhancing and improving their marketing, media communication and business negotiation skills. This training is a part of the preperatory work participating Serbian companies will undergo priot to Fruit Logistica, BIOFACH and Gulf Food Trade Fairs ealy next year.
This year's Ethno Food Fair is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry Engineering and Water Management and the USAID Agribusiness Project and organized with the assistance of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. One of the main goals of the Ethno Food Fair is to provide continuous recognition and the appropriate branding of domestic and traditional Serbian products with the aim of increasing domestic sales and enabling exports to the international markets.
